lyda family photoMy family moved to Avondale Estates when I was seven. I had a great childhood growing up in a community full of places for adventure and play. After graduating from the University of Georgia, I lived in Louisiana and Scotland before returning home to raise my children, wanting them to experience the same safe, welcoming community that shaped my own life.

I began my career at Sun Trust (now Truist Bank), working my way up from clerk to Assistant Vice President, where I gained expertise in managing complex financial operations and collaborating to meet both short-term and long-term goals. These skills were further honed during my time as Finance Officer and City Clerk for Avondale Estates, where I improved financial reporting, and streamlined processes and supported all aspects of city government while providing excellent service to our residents. I also served a term on the Board of Mayor and Commissioners.

As Accounting Director for the DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office, I led a team managing over $1 billion annually for DeKalb County and 28 other taxing authorities, overseeing budgeting, system enhancements, and audits to ensure transparency and accuracy—principles I believe are crucial for city governance.

After retiring in 2020, I provided oversight for my grandchildren’s remote learning during the pandemic and worked part-time as an accountant for an international fabric manufacturer before fully retiring in 2024. Now, I’m ready to bring my financial management, local government experience and dedication to serving the residents of Avondale Estates as a member of the Board of Mayor and Commissioners.
